A 28-BORE FLINTLOCK SINGLE-SHOT DUELLING PISTOL, no visible serial number,
circa 1795, with slightly swamped octagonal twist-iron 10in. barrel, the top-flat signed 'WHEELER LONDON', silver dovetailed fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight to the hooked breech, ball and band engraving to the breech-end, border and scroll engraving to the top-tang, gold lined touch-hole, borderline engraved bevel-edged step-tailed lockplate signed 'WHEELER' in script forwards of the hammer, floral engraving to the slab-sided hammer and around the lock-pins, sliding safe behind the hammer also locking the frizzen, semi rainproof pan, roller-bearing to the frizzen foot, walnut full-stock with chequered bag-shaped pistol-grip, segmented carving to the pommel, provision for oval escutcheon to side-cheek (missing), floral engraving to the trigger-guard bow, set-trigger with adjuster, vase and pineapple finial, provision for two take-down wedges (one missing) and original mahogany ramrod with worm end (small loss to wood at fore-end tip)
