A .650 FLINTLOCK VOLUNTEER CAVALRY OFFICERS PISTOL, no visible serial number,
circa 1805, with round 9in. barrel, flat sighting plane signed 'NEWCASTLE' (fAint), applied bead fore-sight, engraved solid top-tang, flat, slightly curved bevel-edged lockplate signed 'GARDNER', sliding safe behind the hammer, rainproof pan, scroll engraved hammer, roller bearing to the frizzen-spring, walnut three-quarter stock with finely chequered bag-shaped butt, silver oval escutcheon to top of wrist, martial trophy engraved to the trigger-guard bow, pineapple finial, brass fore-end cap and captive stirrup iron ramrod, the woodwork with numerous age related repaired cracks
