A 13-BORE MIQUELET-LOCK SINGLE-BARRELLED SPORTING GUN, UNSIGNED, no visible serial number,
probably Spanish or Portuguese, circa 1750, with octagonal to round, swamped, brushed bright 40 3/4in. barrel, three-quarter length carved and stepped sighting rib beginning with carved rococco scrolls (traces of gilding) and terminating with a silver boat-shaped fore-sight bead, twin gilded Spanish makers stamps with six surrounding 'fleur-de lys', hooked breech, plain top-tang with sighting groove, brushed bright lock with quadruple stepped tail, traces of engraving to the lockplate, floral engraving to the frizzen-bridge, pillar hammer, mainspring with carved tail, handrail half-stock with pinched comb, large silver oval escutcheon with embossed border to top of wrist, iron furniture including double-rolled stylised serpentine side-plate, pillar-fronted trigger-guard, plain ramrod throat, unusual applied silver ramrod thimbles in the form of twin-headed eagles, their clasping talons forming the pipes, iron ramrod and fitted with sling swivels
