A 25-BORE PERCUSSION SPORTING RIFLE WITH GILDED MOUNTS, no visible serial number,
circa 1760 with later conversion to percussion, browned damascus swamped 29 1/2in. octagonal barrel signed in gold on the top-flat 'ANTON KLEIN IN WIENN', inlet gold wire arabesque surrounding the brass dove-tailed fore-sight, similar inlet gold arabesque and twin gold lines to breech, borderline engraved brass standing notch rear-sight with carved tail and a further two folding leaves, engraved solid dove-tail top-tang (cracked through), engraved drum and nipple conversion with platinum vent, flat, slightly curved bevel edged and carved bordered lockplate signed 'ANTON KLEIN IN WIENN', scroll and shell engraving, the hammer carved as a stylised dolphin with the tail forming the hammer-spur, walnut full-stock carved along and around the ramrod-channel, furniture and butt-end, substantial cast, pierced and relief-embossed brass mounts with traces of gilding applied around the top-tang, to the edge of the raised cheek-piece, the lid of the butt-mounted patch-box and the underside of the butt, similar decoration to the top-spur of the heel-plate, the raised trigger-guard tang and bow, the finial, the ramrod throat and pipes, the side-plate and the nose-cap, original brass-mounted wood ramrod and provision for sling
