28in. nitro reproved barrels (in 1978), ribs gold-inlaid '1' and '2' and engraved 'J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE. SOUTH AUDLEY STREET. LONDON. ENGLAND.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 3/4 choke, removable striker discs, swept toplevers gold-inlaid '1' and '2', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, cocking-indicators, best fine bouquet and scroll engraving, lockplates retaining traces of colour-hardening, one lockplate screw replaced,15 1/8in. figured stocks including 7/8in. rubber recoil pads (No.2 a replacement by the makers in 1959), fore-end No.1 gun with some damage and poorly rechequered, weight 6lb. 4oz. (No.1) and 6lb. 6oz. (No.2), in their lightweight leather motor case
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the guns were completed in May 1938, with 28in. barrels, for a Mr L.C. Robertson and that they restocked the No.2 gun in 1959
