POWELL, TUNBRIDGE,
A FINE CASED 54-BORE PERCUSSION SIX-SHOT DOUBLE-ACTION ONLY TRANSITIONAL REVOLVER, no visible serial number,
circa 1850, with slightly tapering 3 5/8in. micro-rifled octagonal barrel, the top-flat signed 'POWELL, TUNBRIDGE', engraved band at muzzle, nickel dovetailed crescent fore-sight, short plain colour-hardened cylinder, the chambers numbered from '1' to '6', blued scroll engraved rounded central hammer boxlock action, the left hand side marked 'IMPROVED REVOLVING PISTOL', the border and scroll engraved hammer with sighting aperture, border and scroll engraved back-strap, finely chequered walnut grips, iron scroll engraved pommel-cap with centrally mounted cap-box and scroll-engraved trigger-guard bow, the whole retaining strong traces of original finish, COMPLETE WITH its original mahogany storage case, compartmented and lined in red baize and containing a number of period accessories including a small three-way flask (corroded), a combined scissors ball mould and ramrod, a nipple-key, a turn-screw, a mahogany ramrod, various cap-tins and a later oil bottle.
Other Notes: An old baggage label included inside the case states 'An Improved Revolving Pistol used by a farmer, for his own protection, when bringing home money from Maidstone, About 1860'
