A RARE .451 (METFORD) SINGLE-SHOT BREECH-LOADING MILITARY MATCH RIFLE, MODEL '1881 DEELEY-EDGE', serial no. 3371,
circa 1890, with 33in. barrel signed 'WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO LONDON' approximately halfway along and 'METFORD RIFLING' near the breech, the left hand side of barrel marked 'FOR W.R. METFORD MILITARY CARTRIDGE' beneath the elevating ladder rear-sight, blade fore-sight, 'Westley Richards' triangle trademark stamped to the nocksform, plain receiver with falling-block action, the left hand side signed 'WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO LONDON' together with the triangle trademark, the right hand side marked 'DEELEY-EDGE PATENT', walnut straight-hand butt-stock, iron heel-plate with central trapdoor (trapdoor missing), three-quarter length walnut fore-end with two iron barrel-bands, no provision for bayonet and complete with its iron clearing rod
