AN UNIDENTIFIED EUROPEAN NAVAL SWORD WITH WHITE-METAL HILT AND ETCHED BLADE DECORATION,
probably Dutch, circa 1860, with 29 1/2in. slightly curved pipe-backed quill-tipped blade, etched for two thirds of its length with floral panels surrounding fouled anchors surmounted with a guelphic crown and three-masted galleons, the left hand side with a small banner reading 'YZERHOUWER', the right hand side with another reading 'FRANS PAUWELS HOFLEVERANCIER TES GRAVENHAGE', etched floral decoration to back of blade (one small area of cleaned pitting to left hand side and a further smaller patch to back edge), pierced and carved white-metal half-basket hilt with scrolled quillion, oval panel of a fouled anchor surmounted by a guelphic crown and feathered scroll decoration, wire-bound ivory grip and lions head pommel, COMPLETE WITH its white-metal mounted black leather scabbard with twin loose suspension rings
