A .297-250 (ROOK) SINGLE-SHOT BOLT-ACTION SPORTING RIFLE, MODEL 'CERTUS', serial no. 30710,
circa 1910, with ovoid 25 1/2in. barrel, matted flat sighting plane to top signed forwards of the folding rearsight 'COGSWELL & HARRISON LTD, 141 NEW BOND ST & 226 STRAND LONDON', dove-tail fore-sight with nickel bead, exposed bolt with fully scroll engraved cover, highly figured chequered walnut half-stock with capped pistol-grip, ribbed end to butt, vacant silver oval escutcheon to underside of stock, scroll engraved trigger-guard bow and horn fore-end tip, some original finish remaining, mainly to bolt
Provenance: The makers have kindly informed us that this rifle was ordered as an 'H' quality Certus rifle and was completed on the 18th of July 1901 at a cost of 8 guineas, 2 guineas of which were charged for the special finishing and it was collected by an F.J. Huntly on the 9th August 1904 after 3 years in storage.
