A SCARCE AND UNUSUAL 50-BORE PERCUSSION BOOT-PISTOL SIGNED 'PURDY, LONDON', no visible serial number,
manufactured in Belgium circa 1875, possibly being designed to be incorporated into a walking stick, with fine etched damascus round 4 1/4in. turn-off scratch-rifled barrel, starred muzzle with engraved band, raised ridge at breech, round section boxlock action with panels of engraved scrolls with acanthus leaf borders, the left hand side with a diagonal bordered panel signed 'PURDY, LONDON', semi concealed side-hammer on the right with concealed nipple, bag-shaped smooth ivory grip (age cracks and some older filled repairs), oval escutcheon to wrist and concealed folding automatic trigger
