27in. nitro chopperlump barrels, sunken rib engraved 'J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE. SOUTH AUDLEY STREET. LONDON. ENGLAND.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 1/2 choke, right wall thickness below recommended minimum, fences finely carved in relief with leaf motifs, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, cocking-indicators, rounded bar, best fine acanthus scroll engraving interspersed with oval and round vignettes of floral bouquets and game scenes of hound, fowl and hare, retaining traces of original colour-hardening, 15in. highly-figured replacement cast on stock, weight 6lb. 10oz., in a canvas and leather case with W. & C. Scott label; together with original highly-figured cast on stock with wooden extension
Provenance: The makers have kindly informed us that this shotgun was completed with 27in. barrels in July 1938 for Mrs. F. Wallis. The name of the engraver is not recorded.
