Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the gun was ordered circa 1869 / 70 as a 12-bore double breech loader, with 30in. barrels and an 'elevated rib' for 'Coll Trotter'.
Research would indicate 'Coll Trotter' to be Lt. Col. John Moubray Trotter (1842 - 1924), born in Edinburgh to Archibald Trotter. He married Mary, daughter of Ralph Abercrombie, 2nd Baron Dunfermline. He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the Bengal Staff Corps.
