A CASED PRESENTATION QUALITY 42-BORE PERCUSSION FIVE-SHOT REVOLVER, MODEL 'ADAMS' PATENT, serial no. 14472,
circa 1855, with octagonal 6 1/4in. barrel, scroll engraved band to the muzzle, dove-tailed beaded-blade fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight, the top-strap signed in a ribbon-border 'MANUFACTURED BY A FRANCOTTE LICENCED BY R. ADAMS CO LONDON', fully scroll engraved frame, the decoration extending onto and along the barrel for approximately 2 1/2in., numbered plain cylinder with engraved bands back and front, polished double-action trigger and spurred hammer, ebonised swept saw-grip butt deeply carved with running vines, ivory oak-leaf and acorn carved quartered butt-cap, scroll engraved straps and trigger-guard bow and polished articulated captive loading rod with chequered grip mounted to the left hand side of barrel, the whole being an older re-finish (some loss to detail) TOGETHER WITH its manufacturers original veneered and brass-banded storage and display case compartmented in the continental style and lined in red velvet (faded), the top-lift-out tray containing the revolver together with a bag-shaped flask (dented, spring replaced), a scissors bullet mould, a horn-handled nipple-key, a plated oil-bottle and a cleaning rod with interchangeable tips, provision for a turnscrew (missing), the under-tray with five rectangular compartments, the inner lid with maker and address details in gold lettering (some losses to veneer, some compartments loose)
