A FINE PAIR OF 40-BORE PERCUSSION OFFICERS PISTOLS, no visible serial numbers,
German, circa 1840, with browned twist-iron octagonal 9in. barrels, dove-tailed fore-sights, colour-hardened breech-blocks with gold inlaid poincons marked 'KLAWITTER HERZBERG' in raised letters, twin gold lines and engraved bands, dove-tailed blade fore-sights, border and floral engraved top-tangs, border and scroll engraved colour-hardened bar-action locks inlaid with gold poincons signed as above, swinging lever safety catches forwards of the engraved hammers, figured walnut full pistol-grip half-stocks with finely chequered butts, flared disc pommels with inlet blued and engraved iron centres (one pistol with old repair to pommel), blued border and trophy engraved trigger-guard tangs and bows, pineapple finials, blued and engraved ramrod throats, double roll-edged ramrod thimbles and brass mounted ebony ramrods, both pistols in a fine state of preservation with much original finish intact
