A RARE .44 (HENRY) FACTORY-ENGRAVED LEVER-ACTION REPEATING RIFLE, MODEL '1866', serial no. 129041,
for 1876, with 24 1/4in. octagonal barrel, the top-flat signed 'WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS, NEW HAVEN CT' over 'KINGS-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29 1866 OCTOBER 16 1860', dove-tailed folding globe fore-sight with standing blade, elevating ladder rear-sight, the bronze open-topped receiver engraved with American scroll panels with borderlines, the left-hand sideplate with central vacant circular panel, no provision for peep-sight or model designation, walnut straight hand butt-stock, crescent brass butt-plate with central sprung trapdoor, later larger-sized finger-loop to underlever, walnut fore-end and scroll engraved nose-cap, full length under-barrel magazine, fitted with swivels
