for 1876, with nickel-plated 24 1/4in. octagonal barrel, the top-flat signed 'WINCHESTER'S REPEATING ARMS, NEW HAVEN CT' over 'KINGS-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29 1866 OCTOBER 16 1860', dove-tailed blade fore-sight, elevating ladder rear-sight, nickel-plated bronze open-topped receiver, no provision for peep-sight or model designation stamp, walnut straight hand butt-stock, crescent style brass butt-plate (traces of nickel plate) with central sprung trapdoor, the cavity containing the original take-down cleaning rod, larger sized finger-loop to underlever, walnut fore-end, nickel-plated brass nose-cap and full length under-barrel magazine, fitted with swivels, a good proportion of the original factory nickel-plating remaining
