for 1878, with 27in. octagonal barrel (possibly shortened), the top-flat signed 'WINCHESTER'S REPEATING ARMS, NEW HAVEN CT' over 'KINGS-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29 1866 OCTOBER 16 1860', dove-tailed blade fore-sight (blade missing), express rear-sight with three folding leaves and a standing notch, iron receiver the sliding dust-cover with chequered thumb-grip, provision for peep-sight and model designation stamp on the top-tang, walnut straight hand butt-stock (small loss at head), crescent style iron butt-plate with central sliding trapdoor, walnut fore-end (small split), iron nose-cap and replacement full length under-barrel magazine (retaining loop missing)
