circa 1840, possibly experimental and loosely based on the Pattern '39 musket, with heavy round 30in. barrel, bead fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight, the breech signed 'C. GREVILLE HARSTON & CO, MAKERS, BIRMINGHAM' together with a running fox trademark, plain bar-action lock with ordnance acceptance stamps, walnut three-quarter stock with raised cheek-piece, brass furniture including pistol-grip trigger-guard tang, side-nail cups, ramrod thimbles and nose-cap, plain iron under-barrel ramrod and iron swivels, some pitting, mainly to barrel surface
