A 24-BORE PERCUSSION SINGLE-BARRELLED SPORTING GUN, no visible serial number,
circa 1785 with later conversion to percussion, with 32in. triple-stage barrel, silver boat-shaped fore-sight on a gilded ground, further traces of gilding to the various barrel-flats, deeply struck makers mark at breech being a crown over 'H.R.' within an oval, eared rear-sight to the scroll engraved top-tang, curved and radiused plain lockplate signed in script 'AUMONT A PARIS' with carved shell to tail, plain hammer, walnut half-pistol full-stock with rococco bordered chequered panels to the wrist and fore-end, the grip carved in imitation of a sea monster, iron cap-style heel-plate engraved with shells and swags, silver panels inlayed to wrist, the chequered panel bordered with inlayed silver stars, further silver stars inlayed to both sides of butt and along the fore-end (an inlay of a crescent moon and the take-down wedge escutcheons missing), inlay of a running snake to underside of butt, iron pillar and shell trigger-guard bow, vase finial, carved iron ramrod pipes and replacement wood ramrod
