A 12-BORE ROTARY-UNDERLEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 1765,
29 3/4in. black powder damascus barrels, the rib engraved 'THOMAS BOSS & CO. 73 ST JAMES'S STREET. LONDON.' and with a flash of scroll at the breech end, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, converted from muzzle loader, rotary-underlever, rebounding sidelocks with carved hammers, grip safety, best border and acanthus scroll engraving, bowed triggerguard, bright finish, 14in. figured stock with steel buttplate, weight 6lb. 11oz.
Provenance: The makers have kindly informed us that this shotgun was ordered in February 1860 by Sir Arthur Hazlerigg, Bart.
Lt.-Col. Arthur Grey Hazlerigg, 12th Baronet in the County of Leicestershire had his family seat at Noseley Hall. He died in 1879 and the title passed first to his father, and thence to his son in 1890 when he was eleven years of age.
