A 12-BORE 1883 PATENT 'THE ROYAL' SIDELEVER SIDELOCK EJECTOR, serial no. 12680,
28in. nitro replacement barrels (circa 1933), tubes engraved 'WILLIAM FORD. 15 ST. MARY'S ROW. BIRMINGHAM.', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 3/4 choke, treble-grip H. Holland and J. Robertson patent barrel cocking action, patent no. 23 of 1883, action face with W.M. Scott and T. Baker patent 'gas check' gas vents, patent no. 617 of 1882, use number H155, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, dipped-edge lockplates, protruding tumbler pivots, best fine floral bouquet and acanthus scroll engraving, the underside engraved "THE ROYAL PATENT SAFETY HAMMERLESS EJECTOR", the top tang gold-inlaid '2', brushed bright finish, 14 7/8in. highly-figured stock (minor setting crack to rear of right lockplate) including 1/2in. wooden extension and 5/8in. ebonite buttplate, fore-end wood with edge insert repair and slight grain separation at knuckle, weight 6lb. 13oz.
Provenance: The makers have kindly informed us this shotgun was completed for 'Lumsden'. The completion date and original barrel length are not recorded.
