for 1863, with round 8in. barrel (strong traces of original blue finish), the top signed 'ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA' within a border framed from American scroll engraving that extends around and along the sides of the breech, engraved band at muzzle, applied fore-sight, stepped cylinder with traces of a naval engagement scene, borderline and American scroll engraved frame, scroll engraved hammer-sides, border and scroll engraved iron back-strap with traces of an amateur inscription, smooth ivory one-piece grip (some age cracking to base), border and scroll engraved brass trigger-guard and iron under-barrel rammer with traces of colour-hardening
