A CASED 14-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN WITH 'EDMUNDS PATENT' FURNITURE, no visible serial number,
circa 1864, with 30in. barrels, the top rib signed 'WILLIAM ELLIS LONDON' (lifting), scroll engraved and banded breech-block, fully scroll engraved top-tang, border and scroll engraved bar-action locks signed 'W ELLIS', scroll and border engraved hammers, chequered walnut half-stock, yellow metal roll-engraved heel-plate with scroll engraved short heel-spur, border and scroll engraved yellow metal trigger guard bow and tang, the tang marked 'EDMUNDS PATENT', yellow metal finial, take-down wedge escutcheons and ramrod throat, no provision for ramrod thimbles and missing ramrod COMPLETE WITH its makers mahogany storage case, compartmented and lined in blue baize and complete with a number of period accessories including shot and powder flasks, nipple-key, powder-measure, cap tin and oil bottle, later cleaning rod and equipment, the interior of lid with parchment William Ellis Birmingham trade label.

Other Notes: The 'Edmunds Patent' referred to is number 2000 of August 13th 1863 and reads:

'STOCKS' - The fittings on the stock are made of aluminium bronze or similar alloy of copper and aluminium, the parts being cast and afterwards forged or hammered cold
