The gun was subsequently owned by Major Ramsey Rainsford-Hannay of Kirkdale, Chief of the Clan Hannay and has passed by descent to the vendor.

Ramsey Rainsford-Hannay was born 29th April 1884. He was educated at Wellington College and Sandhurst, where he was commissioned into the 45th Sikhs (Indian Army). He fought in the North-West Frontier Campaign and died, aged 32, on 11th February 1917 at Mesopotamia, and reported as killed in action.
