30in. nitro barrels, ribs gold-inlaid '1', '2' and '3', tubes engraved 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98 NEW BOND STREET. LONDON.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/4 choke, wall thicknesses around the recommended minimum, gun no. 3 bore dimensions marginal, toplevers gold-inlaid '1', '2' and '3', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, best bold Royal scroll engraving, the undersides engraved 'ROYAL HAMMERLESS EJECTOR' in elaborate cartouches, brushed finishes overall, No.2 retaining traces of original colour-hardening, 15 1/2in. well-figured semi-pistolgrip stocks (possible historic replacements) including 1 1/8in. wooden extensions, No.1 minor crack at hand, weight approx. 6lb. 10oz., in their brass-cornered oak and leather case with accessories and canvas and leather outer

Provenance: The makers have kindly informed us that this trio of shotguns were completed with 30in. barrels in August 1898 for 'Garton'.

The canvas outer is marked 'R.V. Garton' and this almost certainly refers to the author of a book entitled 'Dogs and Guns, the Training, Management and Working of Shooting Dogs'.
