for 1882, with octagonal 26 1/8in. barrel signed 'WINCHESTER'S REPEATING ARMS NEW HAVEN CT. KINGS IMPROVEMENT PATENTED MARCH 29 1866 OCTOBER 16 1860', dove-tailed beaded blade fore-sight, elevating ladder 'Africa' rear-sight with six additional folding leaves, matted surface to the top-flat, factory borderline and scroll engraved nickel-plated receiver, the right hand sideplate featuring a dogs head, the left inscribed in gold within a circle 'A.I.N. DURAAN HOOP STAD', scroll engraved sliding dust-cover, top-tang drilled for peep-sight, fitted with keeper-screws and marked 'MODEL 1873', high-grade figured walnut chequered pistol-grip butt-stock with ebony inlet to base (repairs alongside top-tang and at toe), iron crescent heel-plate fitted with sliding central trap-door (possible traces of plating), single set-trigger, scroll engraved brass cartridge-lifter, high-grade figured chequered walnut fore-end, plated and engraved nose-cap, under-barrel full-length magazine and fitted for the Winchester sling, the whole with strong traces of plating remaining, barrel cleaned with some dark staining
