first year of production, 1850, with 7 1/2in. octagonal barrel signed 'ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW YORK CITY', bead fore-sight, rear-sight notch to the hammer-nose, plain cylinder with roll-engraved naval engagement scene, iron open frame marked 'COLTS PATENT', silver-plated brass grip-straps and square-backed trigger-guard (plating with losses mainly to backstrap), smooth walnut one-piece grip and hinged under-barrel rammer, strong traces of original blued finish and colour throughout
Other Notes: Please note that this lot is accompanied by some reproduced correspondance from a decendant of the original owner, a Mr Hendrik Johannes Janse Van Rensburg (1823-1892)
