Product Details

AN EARLY 1in. SIGNAL PISTOL SIGNED WEBLEY & SCOTT, serial no. 37, circa 1910, with tapering all brass 4in. barrel, brass break-open action and smooth walnut grips

Provenance: This Lot was the navigator's signal pistol aboard a commercial flight with the Handley Page Transport Co. Ltd. in 1919 from London's first airport (Croydon) and Paris. The aircraft had to make a forced landing just after crossing the French coast and the passengers were conveyed onwards by charabanc. The airline merged with a smaller company to form Imperial Airways in 1924.
