30in. nitro reproved barrels (in 2013), rib engraved 'W.J. JEFFERY & CO. 13 KING ST. ST. JAMES ST. LONDON. HERAKLES COMPODND GUN BARREL STEEL' (sic), extractor retaining screw missing, 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and 3/4 choke, treble-grip action, toplever engraved 'T. PAGE WOOD PATENT', bifurcated thumb catch with folding peepsight, border engraving, the makers name in a scrolling foliate banner, retaining traces of colour-hardening, 14 1/2in. semi-pistolgrip stock, weight 7lb. 2oz.
Provenance: The gun was completed circa 1905. In the Jeffery catalogue of the time, this particular model is mentioned as having been a popular choice for export: 'Large numbers of these Guns have been supplied for use in South Africa, to shoot large size shot, for Buck shooting.'
The keeper of the records has kindly informed us that this shotgun was completed with 30in. barrels in February 1905.
