29 1/2in. replacement nitro chopperlump barrels (in 1978), rib engraved 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98, NEW BOND STREET, LONDON.' and gold-inlaid '1', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and 1/2 choke, toplever gold-inlaid '1', automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, fine floral bouquet and acanthus scroll engraving, the underside with 'THE ROYAL - PATENT SAFETY - HAMMERLESS', brushed bright and reblued finish overall, 14 1/8in. well-figured stock (possible replacement) including 5/8in. leather covered recoil pad, weight 6lb. 7oz., in a lightweight leather motor case

Provenance: The makers have kindly informed us that this shotgun was completed in September 1894 for 'Hardy'.

It was later owned by Lt.-Col Reginald Bastard who was born in London, 1881. He served in the Great War with the 2nd Lincolnshire Rifles and was awarded the D.S.O. He lived in Devonshire after the war and was D.L. in 1930 before becoming High Sheriff in 1934. He died 20th May 1960.
