A PAIR OF 25-BORE FLINTLOCK DUELLING-PISTOLS, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1795, restocked probably in Belgium, with swamped octagonal 9in. barrels signed 'TWIGG LONDON' on the top-flats, London proofs, dovetailed bead fore-sights, standing notch rear-sights to the engraved tangs of the hooked breeches, engraved ball-band at breech, flat, slightly curved bevel-edged stepped-tail lockplates signed 'TWIGG', plain hammers (one hammer-spindle broken at the square but hammer present, the other with crude replacement hammer-screw), roller frizzen-springs, walnut full-stocks with finely skip-chequered full pistol-grip butts, inlaid wire twists to the backstraps, further inlaid wire decoration to the swollen pommels, iron grip-caps centrally engraved with a heraldic bird perched on a branch, silver wire inlaid monograms to the stock-sides, floral iron side-nail cups, flared borderline engraved trigger-guards, vase finials, moulded ramrod throat and pipes and probable replacement iron ramrods, both pistols cleaned with cracks and inlet repairs to stocks and possible other minor losses and faults
