A .360 (No5) SINGLE-SHOT HAMMERLESS ROOK-RIFLE, MODEL 'THE ROSS', serial no. 13018, ref. no. 0743,
circa 1888-93, with blued octagonal 28in. barrel signed on the right-hand top-flat 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND, 98 NEW BOND ST, LONDON' and '.360 BORE', the opposite flat marked 'WINNERS OF ALL THE FIELD RIFLE TRIALS' and 'PATENT 1294', dove-tailed bead fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight with two folding leaves, machine engraved top-flat, border and scroll engraved colour-hardened action, blued top-lever, rotating safe to right-hand side of action, walnut chequered pistol-grip butt-stock, the left hand side of butt inlet with brass Small Arms School identity disk, iron heel-plate, engraved iron pistol-grip cap, engraved trigger-guard bow and chequered walnut splinter fore-end with polished horn tip, strong amount of blued finish and colour remaining, complete with its Small Arms School Corps weapons collection identity disk
Provenance: The makers have kindly informed us that this rifle was completed in November 1888.
