AN UNUSUAL OFFICER'S SWORD WITH A PATTERN1892 BLADE MARRIED TO A PATTERN 1821 'HONEYSUCKLE' HILT, late 19th Century, with 32 1/2 in, single-edged steel blade of 'dumbbell' profile, short central fullers and etched scroll-work with royal cyphers on each side, ricasso with brass 'prooved' plug, 'honeysuckle' guard, wire-bound fish-skin grip, unusual chequered pommel without nut, together with its brown leather field scabbard, blade with some staining and smoothed pitting, etching rubbed, losses to wire binding, lower part of scabbard appears to have been replaced, the sword patterns of the late 19th Century went through several changes and this seems to be a transitional piece with an older hilt, 39 in. overall
