for 1829, with shortened 23in. barrels, the top-rib with traces of signature, scroll engraved rib-end, platinum plugs, flat borderline and scroll engraved locks with clipped tails signed in a banner forwards of the hammers 'JNO MANTON & SON PATENT', walnut half-stock (traces of chequering at wrist), iron furniture including square-backed trigger-guard bow and replacement rammer, worn throughout
Literature: W. Keith Neal and D.H.L. Back's book 'The Manton Supplement' first published in 1978 list this gun as 'a double barrel 16-bore shotgun, cased, 31in. barrels'
