A FINE CASED 20-BORE PERCUSSION SINGLE-SHOT SPORTING RIFLE, serial no. 30,
circa 1845, with 30in. twist-iron octagonal barrel, the top-flat signed 'STAUDENMAYER, LONDON', dove-tailed white-metal blade fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight with two additional folding leaves, breech-block with engraved bands, scroll engraved top-flat and single platinum line, engraved platinum plug, scroll engraved top-tang, flat borderline and florally engraved lock signed 'STAUDENMAYER', sliding safe behind the hammer, rounded tail, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, raised tear-drop cheek-piece, iron heel-plate with scroll engraved top-spur, rectangular iron borderline and scroll engraved patch-box, engraved iron trigger-guard bow with raised pistol-gripped tang, single set-trigger, pineapple finial, white metal fore-end cap and probable original brass headed iron ramrod (front thimble replaced), the whole with strong traces of finish TOGETHER WITH a period, probably original to the gun mahogany case, compartmented and re-lined in green baize with a number of period accessories including a good 'G.W. HAWKSLEY, SHEFFIELD' powder flask with leather covered body and nickel furniture, a ball-starter, an unassociated brass ball-mould and a turnscrew
