39in. nitro reproved twist barrel, Jones patent rotary-underlever, carved percussion fence with broad striker, rebounding back-action lock, beaded border engraving, 14 1/2in. figured pistolgrip stock with horn pistolgrip-cap and buttplate, fore-end with crosspin release, exposed loop, minor damage and repairs and horn finial, weight 11lb. 1oz.

Provenance: This shotgun was formerly the property of Ronald "Mike" Harris, a keen wildfowler with the Gainsborough and District club who died in 2007. The following passage is an extract from a piece (that accompanies this Lot) by Frank Ille, a long-standing friend of Mike's:

"The single-barrel 8-bore came into play in 1979 on Islay in pursuit of the Barnacle and White Fronted geese, All five of us had a go, and were amazed at the range [and] what a good pattern could be shot from what is not regarded by today's standards a heavy load. We attributed some of the success of the 8-bore to its weight, you could not stop the swing if you tried."
