Provenance: The makers have kindly informed us that this shotgun was completed December 1903 as No.3 of a trio, all with an extra set of barrels, for the Earl of Powis.
George Charles Herbert, 4th Earl of Powis was born 24th June 1862 and succeeded his uncle, the 3rd Earl in 1891. He was schooled at Eton before going up to Cambridge where he graduated as both a BA and an MA. In 1898 he was made Honorary Colonel of the 4th South Wales Borderers.
Lord Powis died, aged ninety, in November 1952 and was buried at Christ Church, Welshpool. He bequeathed his family seat, Powis Castle, to the National Trust and since all three of his children had pre-deceased him, he was succeeded in the Earldom by his cousin, Edward Robert Henry Herbert.
