27 1/4in. nitro reproved barrel with hexagonal breech-section, the top-flat engraved 'W.W. GREENER. 68. HAYMARKET. LONDON.', 2 3/4in. chamber, bored approx. 3/4 choke, treble-grip action with carved teardrop fences, manual side safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, border and partial scroll engraving, retaining traces of original colour-hardening and finish, 13 3/4in. figured stock, weight 4lb., in its makers oak-lined canvas and leather case

Provenance: The guncase bears a label showing the previous owner's name; Rear-Admiral Sir Oswald 'Nigel' Cecil, K.B.E., C.B.

He was born November 1925, the grandson of Lord William Cecil and was schooled at Ludgrove before entering the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth. He rose to the rank of Rear-Admiral in 1975 after a period as Naval A.D.C. to The Queen and ended his career as Flag Officer of Malta.

Cecil left Malta with the rest of the British forces in 1979 and retired from the Navy in September of the same year. The following year he was appointed Lieutenant-Governor of the Isle of Man, a post he held for five years.
