A CASED 16-BORE TUBELOCK DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING GUN, serial no. 8741,
for 1820, with re-browned 30in. barrels, white-metal inlaid poincons at breech with 'JOSEPH MANTON LONDON' in raised letters, platinum line and vents, acanthus scroll engraved top-tang, flat, borderline and floral scroll engraved numbered locks signed 'JOSEPH MANTON PATENT', walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, iron heel-plate, fully engraved trigger-guard bow, pineapple finial and ramrod throat, brass mounted wood ramrod, iron surfaces lightly cleaned with some loss to detail TOGETHER WITH a period mahogany storage case, lined in green baize with a small Joseph Manton & Sons parchment trade-label to the inside of lid and containing a powder-flask, wad-punch, turn-screw and a shot-charger plus a small quantity of tubes in a striker-pot, missing side-nail from locks
