A RARE .577 & 20-BORE FLINTLOCK TURN-OVER COMBINATION SPORTING GUN, no visible serial number,
circa 1780, with browned two-stage over-under 36 1/2in. barrels banded at the intersection, the rifle barrel with dove-tailed bead fore-sight and standing notch rear-sight at breech, the shotgun barrel with applied bead fore-sight set in a silvered star-burst ground, both top-flats signed 'OAKES & SEDDON' in script followed by 'LONDON' in block letters, London proofs, twin engraved ball-bands at breech bisected by an engraved band of rope-twist, the breech sides with applied bevel-edged front half 'locks' retaining the frizzens, roller bearing frizzen springs and signed 'OAKES', the bevel-edged, back-action, scroll engraved lock on the rear right side engaging each frizzen when the barrels turned through 180 degrees, floral scroll engraved top-tang, walnut handrail 'banana' butt-stock carved with a border and shell around the top-tang, iron heel-plated, the stepped spur engraved with a border and a shot game-bird, the left hand side inlet with fine silver wire scrolls at head, rolled edge florally engraved trigger-guard bow and bottom tang, set trigger, no provision for fore-end and side-mounted bone-tipped wood ramrod
