A FINE 9-BORE FLINTLOCK DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN, serial no. 2170,
for 1818, with rebrowned damascus 28in. barrels, the top-rib signed 'W. SMITH, PRINCES STREET LONDON', silver bead fore-sight, quadruple gold lines to the squared patent breeches (much colour remaining), platinum lined touch-holes, engraved top-tang cross-cut with a patent rain-water drainage system, flat, slightly curved colour-hardened step-tailed locks signed 'WILLIAM SMITH, PRINCES ST. LONDON' and 'PATENT 1358' forwards of the hammer on the right hand side and similar signature with 'PATENT 1359' on the left, further engraving of scrolls and sun-rays to both locks, engraved hammers with squared top-jaws, patent rain-proof pans, roller bearing frizzen springs and engraved frizzens, each with 'W. SMITH' and the relevant patent use number, chequered walnut half-stock, iron heel-plate with engraved top-spur and the serial number, blued iron trigger-guard tang and border and scroll engraved bow, turned ramrod pipes and original ramrod

Other Notes: William Smith was at 2 New Lisle Street, 1806-16; 59 Princes Street, Leicester Square, 1817-20 and 64 Princes Street, 1821--24. He was appointed Gunmaker-In-Ordinary to the Prince Regent in 1817, and to King George IV in 1820
