28in. black powder only fine damascus barrels, rib engraved 'J. PURDEY 314 1/2 OXFORD STREET. LONDON.' and '2', flip-up open sight, 2 7/8in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, Jones patent rotary-underlever, carved percussion fences, rebounding island locks with dolphin hammers, fine acanthus scroll engraving, action flats engraved 'No.2', retaining virtually full colour-hardened finish (possibly renewed), 14 3/8in. figured stock with sling swivels, fore-end with minor loss to right edge, weight 8lb. 9oz.

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the gun was completed in 1874 for a W. H. Duncombe as a '10 G breech loading hammergun, back action locks, lever over guard'. The barrel length is not recorded.
The preceding gun, serial no. 9283 was also a 10-bore, completed the same year for a Mr W. H. Fellows
