Continental, probably German circa 1860, with heavy octagonal slightly swamped browned barrel, the top-flat marked 'ENGL. GUSS-STAHL', micrometer beaded-blade fore-sight, elevating blued steel rear-sight with locking wing-nut, two engraved bands at breech, long scroll engraved top-tang fitted with a pillar adjustable peep-sight, scroll engraved back action lock also featuring a standing stag picked out in silver-gilt, scroll engraved dolphin hammer, swinging safe forwards of the hammer, herring-bone chequered walnut full-stock, scroll engraved hinged iron patch-box (serial number inside lid) with a central depiction of a hunter picked out in silver-gilt, the left side of stock relief carved with deer in a woodland setting behind the raised tear-drop cheek-piece, blued semi-crescent heel-plate, moulded iron trigger-guard bow with scrolled raised tang, the bow engraved with a hunting dog in silver gilt (traces of colour hardening), double set triggers, turned ramrod thimbles, the front with stop-plate, moulded horn muzzle-cap and probable original wood ramrod
