A .450/.400 (2 3/8IN.) FIELD'S PATENT FALLING-BLOCK SPORTING RIFLE, serial no. 13071,
dated '1877', 25 3/4in. black powder only barrel with full length matt sighting flat with spurious signature 'J. PURDEY & SON. AUDLEY HOUSE. SOUTH AUDLEY STREET. LONDON. MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH FLUID PRESSED STEEL', later open sights with folding tangent sight marked for 200 yards (a second dove-tail filled), bead fore-sight, action profusely engraved with scrollwork and with vignette involving two running deer on the right side and signed 'FIELD'S PATENT / NO. 1927 / 1877' on the left side, reblued finish overall, 14 3/8in. well figured pistolgrip stock with sling eyes, scroll engraved pistolgrip-cap and horn buttplate, weight 7lb. 9oz.

Other Notes: The Purdey records note serial no. 13071 as being a .300 single-barrelled hammerless sidelever rook rifle.
