AN EXTREMELY FINE SIGNED JAPANESE DAGGER, AIKUCHI,
re-mounted circa 1800 with an earlier 11 1/4in. hatchet-point blade, twin narrow blind fullers to the right hand side of blade, deeply carved 'horimono' within a deep single fuller or 'bo-hi', silver 'habaki', short broad tang signed on both sides pierced with the mounting hole, solid polished buffalo-horn hilt with grip-sections carved in imitation of rope-binding, matte-black laquered saya with rippled surface highlighted in matte-red laquer, silver 'kogai', signed 'kogatana' with finely carved and gilded double-sided 'kozuka' (loose), fine condition throughout
