A .577 PERCUSSION SERVICE RIFLE, MODEL 'PATTERN 1856 SHORT-RIFLE', no visible serial number,
dated for 1861, with round 33in. barrel (darkly stained), block and blade fore-sight, elevating ladder rear-sight, rounded breech-block with top-flat, numerous inspectors stamps and ordnance marks, plain top-tang, lock dated and signed 'ENFIELD', 'VR' and crown to tail, walnut full-stock stamped 'H. Wheeler' near the rear side-nail, the butt stamped with Pimlico re-work mark and dated '1863' together with 'II' over 'INT', the reverse numbered '3' over '60' over '166' together with a larger stamp 'I' over '69', iron furniture including two barrel-bands and nose-cap, applied bayonet lug to muzzle and jag-ended iron ramrod, fitted with a later but pattern leather sling
