circa 1860, with heavy octagonal 28 1/4in. barrel, recessed muzzle, the top flat signed 'G. RICKENBACH IN BASEL', dove-tailed tunnel fore-sight with fine bead, the rear-sight dove-tail blanked off with a brass plate, squared breech, long top-tang fitted with adjustable vernier sight, plain lock and hammer, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, iron crescent heel-plate, scrolled trigger-guard tang and spurred trigger-guard bow, brass tipped wooden replacement ramrod and later basket-weave sling
