A LARGE WHITE-METAL MOUNTED BOWIE-KNIFE WITH SCABBARD,
circa 1880, with substantial 12 1/4in. clip-point blade decorated along the back edge for the first 6 1/2in., the remainder false-edged, the left hand side of blade with traces of a large 'IXL' mark along with 'HUNTERS COMPANION' beneath a banner with an illegible word, assymetrical flat white-metal cross-guard, coffin hilt with white-metal bolsters, the pommel embossed with a seated lion to both sides, ivory grip-scales inlet with rectangular escutcheons TOGETHER WITH its tooled black leather scabbard embossed with the letters 'IXL' bracketed with eagles in flight (traces of gilding), embossed and gilded borders and complete with white metal separate chape and locket with fancy cut edges, the locket with large domed frog-button (knife blade with some patchy staining, the scabbard with losses to finish)
