for 1851, with 7 1/2in. blued octagonal barrel, the top-flat signed 'ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY', engraved band at muzzle, scroll engraving at breech, plain cylinder with roll engraved scene, open iron colour-hardened frame with scroll engraving and rope-twist borders, scroll and border engraved silver plated brass back-strap and square-backed trigger-guard, the back-strap also engraved with a vacant cartouche, smooth highly figured walnut one-piece grip, hinged under-barrel rammer with scroll engraved joint, the whole retaining traces of original finish, COMPLETE WITH its manufacturers oak case, compartmented and lined in red velvet (faded), and including an 'L' shaped nipple key, brass ball and bullet mould, large bag-shaped powder flask signed 'J. BARLOW PATENT', a cap tin and an oil bottle
