A SCARCE 11.15mm (WERNDL) SINGLE-SHOT MATCH-RIFLE, no visible serial no.,
circa 1870, with octagonal 30in. barrel signed on the top-flat in gold 'JOH. PETERLONGO IN JNNSBRUCK' (sic), bead fore-sight with curved side protectors, tangent rear-sight, breech with silver wire scrolls, floral engraving and marked 'WERNDL', fully engraved back-action lock (traces of inlay) featuring a running stag, walnut half-stock with raised shaped cheek-piece and chequered grip, the wrist fitted with a replacement period adjustable aperture rear-sight, set triggers, scroll engraved inlet patch-box with central relief carving of a seated hunting dog, the patch-box with ornate hinge, scroll engraved butt-plate, shaped horn trigger-guard tang cover, double set-triggers, scroll engraved trigger-guard bow and carved schnabel tip to fore-end
